Events

Each year the National Committee has supported various conferences.

Presentation at Chairs Conference

For the last two years a conference has been held for the Chairs (and other members) of the LVSCs.
Low Vision Services Committees have been represented from across the country.

In 2005 Andy Gibson a researcher from Warwick University presented on the results of the Evaluation
Anita Lightstone representing the Department Of Health, presented on the Eye Care Steering Pathways

In 2006 Juan Shimmin from Action for Blind People advised LVSCs about how to attract funding. The presentation is available here.
Barbara McLaughlan from RNIB presented on the results of the AMD Alliance and RNIB Survey of Low Vision Services “A question of Independence”

This year the Conference will take place on November 7th at Queen Alexandra College. Once again the day aims to provide information and support for LVSCs . The morning will consider the first draft of the National Vision Strategy. The afternoon will focus on the new Department of Health Guidance. A provisional programme is available.

The next conference looking at Children and low vision services will also be developing the theme of standards in low vision. The Conference will take place on May 8th 2008 at the Together Trust Conference Centre, Cheadle south of Manchester.

World Site Day events

Several LVSCs have arranged activities to promote World Sight Day that takes place on October 11th 2007.

Oxford

The LVSC has arranged to have a display in the Westgate Shopping Centre on Saturday 13th of October.

The Wirral

The LVSC are hosting an event at The Lauries on World Sight Day itself. Read about last years celebration.

Other local events and activities

Leeds

Within Leeds Health and Social Care economy, RNIB is working in partnership with Leeds PCT, Social Services, St James Hospital and Leeds LVSC to develop an information prescription for sight loss.
